Mommy's Day Out

Like many, I have been locked up at home for months because of the COVID19 pandemic. Fortunately I had a chance to finally venture out again last weekend as hubby and I attended his youngest brother’s wedding.

The church venue was an hour and a half drive (without traffic) from where we live so it felt as if was on a field trip. Like a kid, I was looking at everything. Who would have thought that passing through the metro's major thoroughfares will be such a treat!

Due to COVID19 restrictions, the wedding guests were cut down to only a handful. It was a very intimate affair with just the bride’s sister, a married couple who are friends of the newlyweds and hubby and I. The rest are the photo/video peeps and the bride’s glam team.

The ceremony started with the traditional wedding entrance sans the usual entourage. The guests were requested to perform the duties which normally would have been assigned to the bridesmaids and groomsmen. The bride’s sister was the maid of honor and candle sponsor. While the 2 pairs of couples (which included us) stood as witnesses as well as veil and cord sponsors.

Seating arrangements were a little bit weird, too, as we and the other couple were seated where the parents should have been. While the bride’s sister was the lone occupant in the church pew. Key members of the family, especially the parents were sorely missed.

Despite the shortcomings, however, the wedding was a beautiful one. It was simple and solemn. And the priest delivered an inspiring homily about marriage and relationships.

Personally, it was a blessed moment for me because aside from witnessing a union in the middle of this pandemic, it was also the first time I have set foot inside a church, attended mass and received the Holy Communion after almost 5 months. Truly a gift!

The wedding ceremony was followed by a mini banquet in a quaint garden restaurant about 15 minutes from the church. The food was really good! They served kare-kare with yummy bagoong, sisig, fried chicken, fish and chips, pesto pasta and chicken caesar salad (which I super like!). It was a treat to be able to eat out after so long as it used to be a our weekly thing and I missed it.

The thoughtful newlyweds let us bring home some food to give to my mom-in-law and son because they were not able to come due to COVID19 restrictions.

In keeping up with the times, the wedding souvenirs consisted of a face mask, hand sanitizers and germicidal soap.

The way back home was another field trip for me because  we took a different route. I felt like a kid enjoying the view from the skyway.

Before heading home, we dropped by my mom-in-law's place to pay her a long overdue visit and gave her the food from the wedding. Seeing her was also another blessing because we have not seen each other in quite a while.

We also tried to visit my father in the columbarium because it was on the way but it was closed.

To cap off the trip, we went to the nearest Starbucks with drive thru and got myself a yummy frappe. Mmmm...

'Til the next adventure. We're under quarantine again so who knows when that will be. Praying fervently that this pandemic ends soon and let the world start to heal.
